Seattle

We were very lucky with the weather in Seattle as they get on average only 60 sunny days a year, we were there 3 days and got 3 days of sunshine.

In the World Fair Park are these funky glass ‘flowers’;

Although I’m not sure why you need to keep glass flowers in a greenhouse?

Pike Place Market.  Made famous for fishmongers throwing 3 foot long salmon, films like Sleepless in Seattle and on the TV show Frasier.  Busy and touristy so struggled to find the artisan food we were looking for.  Am sure the locals know where it is

We were told this is the original Starbucks although opinions vary.  Thought we’d get a photo anyway;

Seattle is surrounded by lots of islands so locals often pop to them on the Washington State Ferries to enjoy some peace and quiet.  On our last day we took the ferry to Bainbridge island just a short hop across the Puget Sound.

Mount Rainier 60 miles away looming in the background. The picture doesn’t look real but this is exactly what we saw on the way back across to Seattle from the ferry

It’s been only 6 weeks and we’ve travelled so far to come back to (almost) the same place.

  1. Looks like a painted back drop from a western. Just looked it up - it's only 4,392 m. you could have nipped up it in an afternoon and been back in starbucks for a cappuccino for dinner. Seattle does looks like an odd place though...
