Southern Utah – Capitol Reef & Grand Escalate

Capitol Reef

We passed through a couple of other parks on our way to our next main park. The first one was Capitol Reef. Great rock formations and amazingly different from other areas pretty close by. They claim to have some of the clearest air and further views in the US

The roads are built right amongst the rocks so never a dull moment.

Unfortunately the rain had caused flash floods which closed some of the roads in the park. Fortunately the one to the most famous place was still open – they are renown for their pies. This is my satisfied pie face – and the surroundings aren't bad either

Note the weather closing in on us. We've just been through 3 days of almost continuous rain which has made some of the parks interesting. Throughout the trip we haven't had much rain so can't really complain.

Grand Staircase Escalate

The second one was Grand Staircase Escalate National Monument. Not sure what the difference is between a national park and monument as equally impressive. Another canyon which has been cut through by a river
