Whilst in Fairbanks the Eskimo Olympics were on. Eskimo and Indian tribes gather to compete in traditional events, such as; ear pulling, stick pull, one leg kick, two leg kick, blanket toss, knuckle hop, four man carry, kneel jump and drop the bomb.
Traditional singing and dancing to get everything started;
Best traditional costume events;
Eskimo stick pull;
The Indian stick pull uses a tapered stick coated in Seal grease;
One foot kick. Contestants have to hold onto one foot then kick the ball with the other foot before landing on that foot.
Blanket toss. Competitors are launched into the air from a Seal skin blanket to do tricks before landing on the blanket;
I guess he missed the blanket on the way back down…
Two foot kick. Both feet must be together to kick the ball and you must land on both feet.
Ear Pulling. A test of endurance.
There were plenty of other events but we only had a couple of days – we would have loved to stay for more.
