Burger Me

When started this blog we said we wouldn't post lots of pictures of food, but, for these burgers we had to make an exception.

On the road out of Lake Tahoe in the town of Truckee is;

As seen on 'Diner, Drive-ins and Dives', it's basic but the food...

Jakki had a bacon and cheese burger;

I had the 'Train wreck', with chilli and an egg on top;

Nom, nom, nom.

Lake Tahoe - Squirrel or Chipmunk?

So is it a stripped squirrel?

Or a chipmunk?

Lake Tahoe

We did get one good day to go up the mountain.

Great I thought we'd take one of these up;

And walk around at the top, take some pics and walk down.

"Oh no" says Jakki, we're walking, all the way up there;

Just think how good you'll feel when you get to the top... Yeah right...

But I must admit the view from the top was stunning;

Guess it was worth it after all.

Lake Tahoe

So they said "Go to Lake Tahoe, it's beautiful..." and "You've got to see Tahoe" etc. etc.

So we did...

For a week...

It was cold;

And wet;

Still we got to see some nice waterfalls;

Some very close up - that's me in the middle having climbed over the wet rocks (it didn't matter as by this stage I was soaked through anyway);

Yosemite - Tioga Road

We left the park via the North-West gate having driven the Tioga Pass Road.

Some of our pictures from along the way;

The pass reaches a peak at almost 10,000 ft and then drops out of the mountains loosing 3,000ft rapidly to Mono Lake and the border with Nevada.

Mono Lake;

Yosemite - Mirror Lake

After the noise and chaos of the waterfalls the peacefulness of Mirror lake was wonderful.

Jakki with a different view of Half Dome in the background;

 Some traditional Auzzie ritual;

 Some of the locals we met along the way;

Yosemite - Waterfalls

Some of the amazing waterfalls in Yosemite Park.

Looking into Yosemite valley, Bridalveil falls on the right;

Bridalveil from the bottom;

Upper Yosemite falls;

and Lower Yosemite falls from the valley floor;

Halfway to Vernal falls;

The trail up is extremely steep, slippery and covered in water.  The most sensible stopped at halfway

Rainbows pretty much all the way up.  Good to have something to look at as there was plenty of rest stops

Every time I thought I was almost there I climbed over another section and saw more, but I am pretty determined (aka pig headed) so kept going

Only one of us made it to the top;very wet from the waterfall mists but very satisfied.  My legs were hurting for a couple of days afterwards!

Looking back the way I had come

Another rest stop on the way down gave more time for photos,quite amazing

Yosemite - Half Dome

Some views of Half Dome from Glacier Point;

Have you seen it yet?  Look closer;

There's two climbers on the face of Half Dome;

View of Half Dome from the valley floor;

Yosemite - Sentinel Dome

We decided to climb Sentinel Dome as from the top you get 360 deg view of the park and great views of the main Yosemite valley.  Not too steep until the last bit but worth the views when you make it

View across the valley to Yosemite Falls;

Jakki at the top (yes, despite the blue sky it was cold).

Note the waterfall (above the trees in this pic);

A few days after these were taken one of us was mad enough to climb to the top of these falls;

View towards the Sierras;

Patrick with Half Dome across the valley;

View of Yosemite falls;

You can see the upper and lower falls in this pic;

Close to the edge;

"Back a bit more";
